ProfessionalThe OpportunityAs the academic success specialist, you will exercise independent professional judgment and be responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing learning assistance support for the health sciences student population on the Washington State University (WSU) Health Sciences Spokane campus. You will provide guidance to students on developing skills and strategies to enhance learning and academic success. Services will be delivered through individual appointments, workshops, in‑class presentations, and the development of materials, including online content and tools for the Interprofessional Learning Commons (ILC) website. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.Experience maintaining a high level of confidentiality.Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.Able to travel, occasionally overnight, to other campus locations and to attend meetings, conferences, and other site locations.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Education, Psychology or other relevant field.Experience providing academic support services, learning assessments, or other experience related to academic learning support.Demonstrated effective leadership skills.Experience working with health sciences students in a higher education setting.Experience in providing academic support for learners when English is not their primary language.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain harmonious working relationships.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with varying deadlines.Ability to work with diverse students, faculty/staff, and community members.Position Sponsorship Eligibility: Not eligible for work visa sponsorship.Background Check: This position has been designated by the department to require a background check because it requires access to children or vulnerable adults as defined by RCW 74.34, engages in law enforcement, requires security clearance, interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, has access to personal identifying and/or financial information, unsupervised access to university buildings/property, or other business‑related need.
